David Chernyavsky

Our East Side Community Creator

A California creature with a New York soul and Midwestern hospitality, I know what it's like to land in a new city with zero ties and build a life from the ground up. Luck led me to performing in immersive installations at Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, and Electric Forest, and later I switched gears to host a Shabbat Tent at these festivals. My foodie obsessions with artisanal coffee and sourdough led me to the city's hippest cafes, best bakeries, and Hidden Gems of L.A., my walking food tour.

Of everything I've dived into, Jewish community is the anchor for my soul. I didn't grow up with much Jewish know-how, so I threw myself into learning halacha (Jewish law), reading Hebrew, and keeping Shabbat and kosher. Eventually I realized I didn't need to be the kind of Jew I thought was expected of me – I could be the kind that was authentically me. That journey led me to NuRoots. As the East Side Creator, I'm here to hold space for you to find the most authentic, joyful Jewish version of yourself. As Ram Dass put it: "We're all just walking each other home."

Ethan Turer

Our Valley Community Creator

Love all life – my credo. And what a life it is creating meaningful connections! My Jewish upbringing was dedicated to Tikkun Olam, with family-led Sundays of Service and social action leadership, and my L.A. roots include hiking trails and favorite vegan spots. Meeting other young Jewish adults at Moishe House events helped foster a sense of community and inspired me to share that joy, and cofounding Jewish Veggies has been a highlight of my 20s, creating purposeful connections built on shared values and lifestyles.

The friendships and meaning from my own experience have shaped the next step of my Jewish journey with NuRoots. I am so excited to help young adults in the Valley find connection, build community, and feel at home in Jewish life.

Megan Weissman

Our Gen Z Community Creator

An L.A. native, I’m fueled by connecting people to community and everything the city has to offer. I found my Jewish soul at Camp JCA Shalom before working for a women’s retreat company called Campowerment, blending storytelling and social media. More recently, I was honored to be a program manager at B the Difference, a nonprofit assisting individuals with neurofibromatosis.

I wholeheartedly believe we are not meant to go through life alone. Seeing people share experience – laughing, dancing, crying, feeling – is not only my favorite part of community, but of life. When we bring all of ourselves, we find more connects us than keeps us apart.

Allegra Givens

Our West Side & Mid City Community Creator

Moving to L.A. from New Jersey, I began my career in the entertainment industry working for The Simpsons. I'm inspired by stories, and the experiences of others continue to motivate my work. After a short stint as a coffee shop barista, I was drawn to NuRoots to help others build meaningful community. As a yoga enthusiast and wanderlust soul, I moonlight as a yoga teacher and love exploring local hidden gems as much as international, faraway lands. I'm passionate about approaching every interaction with curiosity – listening thoughtfully, knowing whoever is sitting opposite me has a unique story I'm lucky to hear. This openness helps me connect more deeply with others.

In my free time, I like to try new coffee shops, practice Ashtanga yoga, snuggle my dog Phoebe, and bake vegan treats.

Sandy Irani

Senior Program Manager

A product of a strong Rosh Chodesh group, Mizrahi roots, Tikkun Olam teachings, and the Long Island music scene, I've always been drawn to bringing people together around community, tradition, social action, and art. After spending much of my young adult life producing events, I've worked behind the scenes with incredible organizations including the Moth, the Wild Honey Pie, Sofar Sounds, and Rotary International. I'm thrilled to now take on a new role on the NuRoots team, producing our large-scale tentpole events that bring the community together in meaningful and joyful ways.

I care deeply about representation and inclusivity within Jewish spaces. In my work, I'm especially excited to weave Mizrahi stories, culture, and traditions into our programming – helping introduce the broader community to the richness and diversity of Jewish life.

Chelsea Snyder

VP of Young Adults

Crafting the strategic vision, design, and implementation of community building for Jewish Angelenos in our 20s and 30s, I curate and support a mosaic of experiences reimagining what Jewish life can look like. My work is all about helping young adults discover and celebrate Jewish identity through confidence, community, and radical joy.

Before stepping into this role, I worked with teens, nurturing leadership and building thriving Jewish communities. My journey with Federation and NuRoots began as a curious community member searching for my people. I know what it feels like to long for belonging, to imagine a Jewish collective that feels like home. Coming from an underserved Jewish community, I carry that experience with me. I’m in this work to ensure there’s always room at the table: for the outliers, the seekers, and every young adult Jew charting a path in L.A.
