Collective Escape

MARCH 29–APRIL 9 IN L.A.

Our citywide Passover festival. A mosaic of creativity and connection. Driven by a collective spirit with beloved partners and friends. Gathering together in possibility, imagining a braver world, moving toward it.

Rooted in courage, in alignment with the truest self. Choosing vulnerability, aliveness, leaving behind what no longer fits. In Jewish tradition, courage is movement before certainty – walking through fear, carrying hope, reaching upward. Seas can split. Narrow places widen. Growth finds its way.

Mimouna Rising

Come to life at our closing night party, hosted by friends with deep Moroccan roots.

ROOTED IN COURAGE

COLLECTIVE ESCAPE

Mimouna is a joyful Moroccan tradition closing Passover, a night where restriction gives way to openness. Rooted in Mizrahi culture, it begins at nightfall on the last day. Homes fill with guests, tables overflow, and communities gather to celebrate renewal, blessing, and possibility.

A ritual of returning – to bread, to music, to one another – Mimouna is historically a moment of connection and goodwill. Neighbors gathering with symbols of prosperity and protection. Blessings for abundance, fertility, good fortune.

At the heart of Mimouna is the belief that after liberation comes flourishing. From survival to sweetness, Mimouna reminds us that freedom is not complete until it’s lived.

For one vibrant evening, the NuRoots team, along with a host committee with deep Moroccan roots, invites you to a transportive gathering of live music, dancing, food, ritual, and community.

Expect a night filled with color and rhythm as we welcome spring and reopen the flow of life.

A DECADE OF CREATION

In 2016 NuRoots imagined Passover as a weeklong East Hollywood popup, bringing together artists, performers, and young adults from everywhere in L.A., making something personal, local, transformative, new.

Collective Escape became a tradition, a citywide festival, a week of experiences with beloved partners and friends. Each one creates culture and community, tells a story, expresses an emotion, opens the window of imagination.

Built on experimentation and reimagining Jewish ritual, recent iterations include Desert Xodus (2022), which celebrated Mimouna with JIMENA and Trybal Gatherings, Our Burn (2024), which brought the Jewish fire ritual Biur Chametz to life, and Our Echo (2025), inspired by Miriam, a night of collective sound and joy.
