Asian Art Rosh Hashanah | LUNAR

  • Mid-City, Los Angeles (map)

On the afternoon of Second Day Rosh Hashanah, Asian Jews and their allies will gather at the LA County Museum of Art to walk together through the Asian Art exhibits. Attendees will be prompted to use the art as an opportunity to reflect on their own traditions, spirituality, and sense of self. Then we'll all travel over to a nearby park where we've rented picnic tables to provide a nice afternoon nosh as we pivot to Jewish tradition. Our songleaders will lead everyone in some traditional songs of the High Holy Days (and some modern "inspired" ones, like Leonard Cohen's Who by Fire?) as well as some music from LUNAR's own community. We'll also lead a group discussion about what we've learned from experiencing both Asian and Jewish traditions on this day. Finally, we'll blow the shofar to bring us into the new year. Note that Beverly Hills, where this park is located, has been strong in combatting antisemitic incidents, so we are aiming for an outdoor experience. But if safety concerns arise, we'll move the second part indoors in a rented community room.
